Introduction

Department of Acupuncture & Moxibustion Tuina Traumatology of Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital stands as a national model for traditional Chinese medicine within general hospitals. It has been certified as National Key Discipline of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Shanghai Municipal Flagship Hospital for Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine. Additionally, it is designated as Shanghai Model of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practice for General Hospitals, boasting clinical advantages in traditional Chinese medicine specialties. Furthermore, it leads the Shanghai Lumbar Prolapse Specialty Disease Alliance.

As the chairman unit of Shanghai Acupuncture and Moxibustion Clinical Medicine Committee and Appropriate Technology Branch of Shanghai Society of Chinese Medicine, the department undertakes the postgraduate training work of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Jiangxi University of Chinese Medicine and Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine.

The department is the clinical teaching base of TCM acupuncture and massage specialty of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai International Acupuncture and Massage Training Center and Shanghai Standardized Residency Training. Additionally, it is the location of the "Lu's Acupuncture" Lu Thin Yan Acupuncture Heritage Research Center, listed in both the national and Shanghai municipal intangible cultural heritage registries.

The department attaches great importance to personnel training, and boasts two renowned traditional Chinese medicine doctors in Shanghai. Many staff members have been recognized with prestigious awards such as the "Shanghai Construction Meritorious" and the "Silver Snake Award". They have also been honored as "Shanghai Top Ten Young Leaders in Healthcare Management" and "Xinglin Rising Star". Moreover, they are recipients of national accolades, including "National Key Talents for Traditional Chinese Medicine Innovation" and "Young Qihuang Scholars".

Specialties

The department's ward comprises a total of 31 beds, with 19 located at the Xuhui campus and 12 at the Lingang campus. It specializes in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation, stroke sequelae, neck and shoulder syndrome, adhesive periarthritis of the shoulder, facial paralysis, femoral head necrosis, and various types of osteoarthritis. The department has garnered extensive clinical experience in the comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of these conditions, particularly lumbar protrusion, utilizing a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine.

The department's original "Electroacupuncture treatment of lumbar protrusion technology" is not only the first traditional Chinese medicine appropriate technology promoted in Shanghai but also one of the traditional Chinese medicine appropriate technologies endorsed by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine for nationwide promotion.
