General Introduction

Our hospital has served as a teaching hospital since the 1960s, successively affiliated to Shanghai Second Medical College, Shanghai Second Medical University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate education, standardized residency training, specialized physician training, and continuing medical education. Furthermore, we serve as a graduate education base for Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai University of Medicine & Health Sciences, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Shanghai Ocean University, Shanghai Maritime University, Soochow University, Jinzhou Medical University, Macau University of Science and Technology, Jiangxi University of Chinese Medicine, Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine, and Wannan Medical College. Our commitment extends to fostering discipline construction, nurturing talent, developing faculty, integrating teaching resources, and implementing teaching reforms and innovations, all aimed at significantly enhancing the training and development of medical professionals.

Our hospital has 23 teaching and research sections, 28 teaching and research groups, 21 standardized residency training bases for residents and 32 standardized training bases for specialists. We provide 11 first-level doctoral degree programs, 18 second-level doctoral degree programs and 30 third-level doctoral degree programs in clinical medicine, stomatology, traditional Chinese medicine, integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine, Chinese pharmacy, pharmacy, medical technology, nursing, biology, marine science and food science and engineering, involving 38 clinical and administration departments. Our offerings extend to 19 first-level master's degree programs in basic medicine, clinical medicine, stomatology, public health and preventive medicine, pharmacy, traditional Chinese medicine, integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine, nursing, traditional Chinese medicine, biology, medical technology, food science and engineering, electronic information, public management, computer technology, biomedicine, biomedical engineering, control science and engineering and physical education, 25 second-level master's degree programs and 39 third-level master's degree programs, involving 57 clinical and administration departments.

With a faculty comprising 138 doctoral supervisors and 179 graduate supervisors, we provide ongoing training for a diverse student body, including more than 150 medical program students, more than 700 doctoral students, and more than 600 residents and specialists every year.

Our focus on improving teaching quality is evident through our emphasis on clinical medical education, active promotion of teaching reform, and exploration of practices in clinical expertise teaching, medical simulation teaching, medical education research, and medical humanities education. A group of influential education and teaching experts have emerged and won many collective and individual honors. We have forged collaborative partnerships with the University of Pittsburgh in the United States, the University of Melbourne in Australia and the University of Ottawa in Canada.
