About the Fund

The NSFC Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) aims to attract and support young scholars, including non-Chinese citizens, who are currently working or have worked abroad. The program is designed to encourage scholars to contribute to China’s research landscape and develop into leading experts in natural sciences, engineering, and related fields.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility is based on the 2024 guidelines for the NSFC Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) and subject to updates for 2025:

  1. Adherence to the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China and compliance with scientific ethics and integrity.
  2. Born on or after January 1, 1985.
  3. Doctoral degree with at least 36 months of research experience at an overseas institution (exceptions for exceptional achievers).
  4. Research focus on natural sciences or engineering technology.
  5. Demonstrated peer-recognized achievements and leadership potential.
  6. Full-time work commitment in China for a minimum of 3 years upon receiving funding.
