Shanghai Sixth People’s Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine invites outstanding young scholars from overseas to apply for the 2026 NSFC Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas).

About the Program
The NSFC Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) aims to attract and support young scholars, including non-Chinese citizens, who are currently working or have worked abroad. The program encourages scholars to contribute to China’s research landscape and develop into internationally recognized leaders in natural sciences, engineering, and related fields.

Eligibility Criteria
(Based on the 2025 NSFC guidelines; subject to official updates for 2026)
Applicants should generally meet the following requirements:
1. Compliance with the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China and adherence toscientific ethics.
2. Born on or after January 1, 1986.
3. After obtaining a Ph.D. degree and before April 15, 2026, candidates should generally have held a formal teaching or research position at an overseas university, research institution, or corporate R&D institution for at least 36 consecutive months (exceptions may apply for outstanding achievers; this requirement does not apply to candidates who obtained their overseas Ph.D. through a China–foreign joint training program).
4. Research focus on natural sciences or engineering technology.
5. Candidates who have not yet returned to China for full-time work (or who returned after January 1, 2025) must, upon receiving funding, resign from their overseas position and commit to full-time work in China for no less than three years.
6. This project is subject to the coordination requirements of national science and technology talent programs. Only one project at the same program level may be undertaken, and applications to lower-level programs are not permitted.
